Procrastination

Procrastination seems to be the word for the year for me in 2012.  At the start of the holiday season I knew that I have some down time from work and I decided to start blogging again after two years.  But alas for one reason or another I found myself procrastinating on doing my first blog post.  It’s been like that for the whole year.  I merely waited around for the developments to happen without taking any lead which I used to do in the past.

I’ve decided to revive my old blog, Into the Digital Light, again.  It’s a blog that I started out in 2008 as a way to document the various activities of the Internet Café Association of Imus, Inc which I had the opportunity to organize and later lead.  Later it became my own personal blog that detailed my various activities, advocacies and my journey in the world of technology most especially those related to the internet café industry and education.

I had decided to delete my blog in August of 2010 when things started not going well with the advocacy group that I helped organized, iCafe Pilipinas and its sister organization Pilipinas iCafe Multipurpose Cooperative.  At the time, parts of the blog were being copied and owned by another person.  My only regret is that I was not able to make a copy of the contents that covered two long years of hard work and all but only one work remains.

With 2012 ending in about a days’ time and realizing that endings are merely beginnings of something different this blog post I believe would be a brand new start for me with the New Year that is coming.  Procrastination will be the word of the past and for new the year; Initiative and Commitment will take its place.

Piso Net, Is Really that Easy?

The Piso Net as a business model is taking off and the proof of this is that big companies are taking notice and started creating a marketing campaign based on this model. The Piso Net model involves setting up of internet kiosk terminals in different places where people could get internet access. The computer units are individually placed in specially built cabinets and is managed by a coin operated timer that turns off the monitor once the time is up. Need more time just insert more coins in the system. Depending on the preference of the operator the Piso Net system accepts One Peso, Five Peso, Ten Peso or all of these coins. For a One Peso coin one could get on the average about four (4) minutes of internet access. Some internet cafe owners have opted also to operate a Piso Net system along side of their regular internet cafe. Through a 60 – 40 percent partnership arrangement with the site owner they are able to operate more internet access sites with a minimum sup...

Are Internet Cafes....Conclusion

Basically through the years there have been a lot of things that has been written on how to succeed in this industry.   Mostly it was very technical but failed to discuss the most important thing. Have a clear vision of your target market.   One of the factors why most internet cafés fails is that they are only catering to a particular target market which is gaming.   This is understandable since this is the traditional target market of internet cafes but if you are going to go to that market one must understand how to attract gamers who will pay extra for the services that you would offer.   One of the biggest mistakes of an internet café owner is thinking that there is only a Php10.00 market and they could not raise their prices on computer rental per hour.   Once your frame of mind is based on this then you would only attract the kind of market that you thought that only existed.   The challenge is how to attract those people who are willing t...

Using an Interactive Whiteboard in Teaching

Yesterday, I posted a picture in Facebook of myself demonstrating the use of an interactive whiteboard to a group of teachers.  I was quite surprised that a number of my friends like the picture and the response that I got from it.  It reminded me of a totally different experience about 2 years back when I was working for a company that sells interactive whiteboard which totally freaked me out. As part of our marketing campaign for our product, we had invited a number of school administrators for a training seminar on the new technologies that could be used for the K to 12  program that was to be implemented by the Department of Education.  At the end of the presentation a school administrator asked “Why should we use that considering that a blackboard could also create the same result?”  I really could not remember what I answered back, it could have been in the line of “you are an old ignoramus that's why you are not appreciating this” that she was really...
