KFC Whats the Difference Between a Dine In and a Take Out Customer



Since I went back to managing my own business last January, it is not often that we had an opportunity as a family to go out and eat at our favorite fast food restaurants. After spending the day in Manila for my father's medical check up I've decided to bring home to my wife her favorite chicken meal from KFC. I went to KFC Imus and ordered the full 2 piece Street Wise Meal that came along with one rice, mushroom soup, mashed potatoes, a brownie and a drink.

I paid Php180.00 for the take out meal and while waiting I thought that it would be nice if I could bring some extra gravy for the take out since my wife really loves to have a lot of gravy in her mashed potatoes. When I got my order I asked the attendant if I could have an extra small plastic cup that I could put the extra gravy in and her answer astonished me.



Sorry sir we don't allow that for take out only for dine in. There will be an extra charge of Php10.00 if you wished to do so.”

Could somebody in KFC tell me what is the difference between a dine in customer from that of a customer that ordered a take out. The price of your food is the same and hell I ordered more chicken that what your usual customer is ordering. I ordered one of the most expensive package that you have in your menu and yet you want to charge me an extra Php10.00 for the extra gravy.

To think of it we take out customers are more advantageous since we leave after getting our order thus not taking up too much of your precious space not unlike those who dine in that spends as much an hour to finish their meal. You save cost on air conditioning and your staff will not have to take care of trash that we leave behind because we eat it in the comfort of our own home. And most important we just want a little extra gravy and not make it as a soup that you have to refill your container again and again.

Sometimes the reasoning defies logic that the term “Customer Service and Customer Satisfaction” is no longer part of today's business ethics. Just give me your money and bye bye to you.

Basically through the years there have been a lot of things that has been written on how to succeed in this industry.   Mostly it was very technical but failed to discuss the most important thing. Have a clear vision of your target market.   One of the factors why most internet cafés fails is that they are only catering to a particular target market which is gaming.   This is understandable since this is the traditional target market of internet cafes but if you are going to go to that market one must understand how to attract gamers who will pay extra for the services that you would offer.   One of the biggest mistakes of an internet café owner is thinking that there is only a Php10.00 market and they could not raise their prices on computer rental per hour.   Once your frame of mind is based on this then you would only attract the kind of market that you thought that only existed.   The challenge is how to attract those people who are willing to pay extra and not those who

My Commute….It’s more Fun in the Philippines

After a 10 month work sabbatical I was asked to return to Redfox Technologies as its project lead.  September 30 was the day I started my journey of commuting daily from my hometown of Imus, Cavite to New Manila in Quezon City.  It’s about a two to three hour one way commute daily depending on the traffic conditions.  Before it was quite easy to go to work, all that I had to do was just wait for the bus on our main highway and sleep the rest of the way to Cubao.
